Voyage Itinerary

This crossing will thrill outdoor lovers and everyone who seeks less-traveled roads (or seas). Visit six ports in fifteen days, with seven maiden calls in Japan, Russia and Alaska. From buzzing Tokyo, sail to quieter Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island. Discover a landscape of volcanic caldera lakes at Shikotsu-Tōya National Park and be on the lookout for red-crested white cranes at a protected wetlands park. Next stop: an 1800s-era Russian trading center, with options to tour a museum, walk through the Valley of the Geysers, or view wildlife on the volcano-strewn Kamchatka Peninsula. Your next three destinations are authentic fishing towns that offer a taste of the wild and spectacular beauty of Alaska. Dutch Harbor is the home port of “The Deadliest Catch” and Kodiak is one of the top three fishing ports in the USA—in fact, you can reel in all five species of salmon here. Non-anglers can tour pristine parks, kayak, take a scenic helicopter tour, and learn about Russia’s place in Alaskan history at Baranov Museum.

Post-Voyage Land and Sea Packages

Start your land adventure with a walk on the wild side at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, then arrive at Hotel Alyeska where you’ll spend the evening. This lush valley is breathtaking from every angle, especially at the summit of Mount Alyeska, where you’ll soak in views of sweeping forests and hanging glaciers. In the historic community of Palmer, learn how settlers transformed this land into a thriving farming community. Spend the night in Denali National Park and prepare for a day of incredible exploration. Trek deep in to the park and explore the untamed wilds of the Last Frontier. Next it’s on to Talkeetna, where true rustic Alaskan charm is on full display. Take some time in town before your ride to Anchorage aboard the glass-domed Wilderness Express train. Enjoy a taste of city life before returning home.

Depart for the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a 200-acre sanctuary for animals that no longer have the ability to survive in the unforgiving wilderness. See grizzlies, coyotes, and more show off their “wild sides” in their protected home. Afterwards, check into the Hotel Alyeska. Nestled in a valley between mountains, glaciers and the ocean, it’s one of the most beautiful properties in Alaska. Take the aerial tram to the top of Mt. Alyeska, where you can have a scenic dinner at the 7 Glaciers Restaurant. (We recommend making reservations as far as six months out for this one-of-a-kind dining experience.) Spend the rest of your evening relaxing or enjoying optional activities.

Hear stories about the down-on-their luck people who first colonized Palmer in 1935, and have lunch at a local restaurant before setting off for the unspoiled reaches of Denali National Park. Keep an eye out for grizzlies, moose, wolves, and eagles. Explore further than other cruise line tours, as you travel 66 miles into the Park to reach the Eielson Visitor Center. High in the bluffs, it’s the perfect spot to catch a majestic glimpse of Denali rising to the southwest. (Please note: A box lunch is also included during your expedition.)
