Pre-Voyage Land and Sea Packages

Begin your South American adventure amidst the dramatic landscapes of Rio de Janeiro. Spend the day soaking up the sun at the beach, pull up a seat at a local churrascaria (steak house), or stand in awe of Christ the Redeemer—a 125-foot-tall statue of Jesus Christ spreading its arms over Rio. On day two, you’ll visit the awe-inspiring Iguazu Falls, the largest waterfall system in the world. Spanning the international border between Argentina and Brazil, this New 7 Wonders of Nature and UNESCO World Heritage Site is a must-experience for any explorer. Go deep in the heart of the Yriapu rainforest to the village of Jasy Pora Guarani. Learn about indigenous wildlife and self-sustainability from tribe elders, lunch with local families, and listen to a very special children’s choir presentation. Then cap off your explorations with a second experience at the waterfalls—this time from the distinct Brazilian perspective at Iguazu Falls National Park—before returning to Rio de Janeiro to begin the next leg of your journey aboard the Azamara Pursuit.

Voyage Itinerary

This voyage is all about Portuguese influences—on both sides of the Atlantic. Beginning in Brazil, we’re taking the reverse route of Portuguese explorers back to Europe. We recommend arriving early to really get a feel for Rio—the colorful city of Carnaval—before we depart for Salvador de Bahia.

Arriving for an overnight stay, you’ll find that Afro-Brazilian culture is king in Salvador de Bahia. Experience enthralling dance and martial arts displays of capoeira and get your hands on a favorite local snack, acarajé. Spend a day at sea indulging at the spa or savoring delicious cuisine at our specialty restaurants. Next, we visit energetic and lively Recife, known as the “Venice of Brazil” before our transatlantic crossing gets underway.

Four sea days give you plenty of time to enjoy all that your boutique hotel at sea has to offer. Treat yourself to a relaxing spa experience, dine at one (or both!) of our specialty restaurants, or take in a spectacular show at the Cabaret Lounge.

We spy land again at another former Portuguese colony—Cape Verde. In Mindelo, trek to the top of Monte Verde to explore a nature preserve and soak in sweeping island views. You’ve got three more days at sea to immerse yourself everything Azamara and celebrate the Azamara Pursuit℠’s second voyage across the Atlantic. Shop the souks of Agadir and get swept away by the nostalgic romance of Casablanca in Morocco, then conclude your epic ocean crossing with an overnight in Lisbon. Challenge yourself to surmount all seven scenic hills of Portugal’s magnificent capital city before your departure home.
