Begin your South American adventure at the awe-inspiring Iguazu Falls, the largest waterfall system in the world. Spanning the international border between Argentina and Brazil, this New 7 Wonders of Nature and UNESCO World Heritage Site is a must-experience for any explorer. And we’ll take you there on a four-night expedition that includes a guided tour through the 275 falls and a subtropical rainforest home to over 2,000 species of flora, 400 species of birds, and 80 types of mammals. You’ll also board the train to Devil’s Throat, and get up close to the falls during an exhilarating boat ride. Go deep in the heart of the Yriapu rainforest to the village of Jasy Pora Guarani. Learn about indigenous wildlife and self-sustainability from tribe elders, lunch with local families, and listen to a very special children’s choir presentation. Then cap off your explorations with a second experience at the waterfalls—this time from the distinct Brazilian perspective at Iguazu Falls National Park—before returning to Buenos Aires to begin the next leg of your journey.

Back in Buenos Aires, have breakfast at your hotel and spend the morning taking it easy (or as the locals say, tómatelo con soda). Stroll the parks of Palermo, go shopping in Soho, or visit Cementerio de la Recoleta—an unforgettable “city of the dead” and final resting place for a veritable who’s who of Argentina. Then, it’s time for to depart for the port and the next leg of your journey aboard the Azamara Pursuit.

Voyage Itinerary

Before embarking, spend the morning in sunny Buenos Aires—the perfect starting port for a cruise up the coast—before embarking towards Punta del Este, Uruguay. Two days of cruising along Brazil’s coast follow on the way to São Paulo, one of the largest and most diverse metropolitan areas on earth.

On to Ilhabela, or “beautiful island,” to see why this island more than lives up to its name. Over 40 beaches make it a popular destination for locals and visitors alike seeking to sail, surf, scuba dive, or partake in virtually any watersport. Further up Brazil’s beautiful coast is Buzios, the formerly unknown fishing village made famous by a visit from Brigitte Bardot and her Brazilian boyfriend.

This pinnacle moment of this voyage is two energetic nights in Rio de Janeiro for the incredible Carnaval, a tradition stretching back to the 1700s. We visit during the peak of the celebration—including Fat Tuesday—and you’d be hard-pressed to find a more exciting and memorable festival anywhere on earth.

After two days of cruising back down the coast, explore incredible 19th-century landmarks, historical monuments, and beautiful parks in Montevideo, Uruguay, one of South America's most intriguing and diverse capitals. The voyage concludes in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the country’s cosmopolitan capital.
