Azamara Pursuit’s Maiden Voyage

Trailblazers take note: This is your first opportunity to sail aboard the newest addition to our fleet—the Azamara Pursuit. Embark on a country-immersive maiden voyage of Norway, recently named by the United Nations as “the happiest place on Earth.”

After departing from the UK, spend a luxurious day at sea getting to know your new boutique hotel, before arriving in Oslo. With an overnight stay, there’s plenty of time to discover the striking sights of Norway’s capital. The museums are outstanding, including the trio along the Bygdoy Peninsula, the National Gallery, and Norsk Folkemuseum—an open-air museum with over 150 examples of traditional houses and buildings.

Set sail for the natural charms and laid-back atmosphere of Kristiansand, the southernmost city in Norway. Next, channel your inner Viking in Haugesund—Norway’s birthplace. The Norwegian kingdom was created here in the 9th century, and you can experience life during the era at a reconstructed Viking settlement. To make this maiden voyage even more special, we’ll be sailing in and out of Haugesund with our sister ship, Azamara Journey®!

If you feel like stretching your legs, hop off in Rosendal and set out on an optional shore excursion. Spend the morning exploring the pristine countryside, then rejoin the ship in the afternoon at the innermost port of the majestic Hardangerfjord—Eidfjord. The sail in to this tucked-away treasure is simply breathtaking, and there is plenty of Nowegian wonder to uncover, including sacred Viking burial mounds and the famous Vøringfossen waterfall.

Then it’s on to another overnight stay in the ancient Hanseatic trading city of Bergen. Take a funicular ride to the top of Mount Floyen for spectacular views, visit Gamlehaugen Castle, go to the Fish Market for succulent seafood, and stroll the colorful, historic harbor district of Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Next up is Stavanger. Have your camera at the ready to capture the famous scenic attractions of Preikestolen (“the Pulpit Rock”), the Lysefjord, and Old Stavanger, the best preserved wooden-house settlement in Europe. In Flam, don’t miss the journey through the mountainous countryside on one of the world’s steepest railways—a 12.5-mile-long route that climbs more than 2,800 feet above sea level.

After one final relaxing day at sea, we end our maiden voyage in storied Southampton—where you’ll disembark from this once-in-a-lifetime experience with Azamara Club Cruises®. (And if you’re looking for even more travel ideas, be sure to read our blog, Seven Things to Do in Norway, for Norwegian inspiration!)
