Icebergs, moose & archaeological wonders

Dating back to 1534 and located at the northern tip of Newfoundland, St. Anthony is a quaint fishing town with a population of less than 3,000. In fact, with the longest whale-watching season in North America, and home to spectacular wildlife like polar bears, caribou, and moose (complete with moose-related driving advisories), there are more animals than people here.

St. Anthony is also known as “the iceberg capital of the world”, with massive-sized icebergs a common site along the coast and even in the harbor. Another nearby wonder and very popular daytrip is the L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site of Canada. As the earliest known European settlement in the New World, the archaeological remains of this UNESCO World Heritage Site here go back to the year 1000.
