CRUISE THE COAST OF POETS

One of the busiest ports on the western coast of South America, San Antonio sits in the southern part of Chile’s Valparaiso region. It’s famous for its fresh seafood, pleasant climate, beaches, and for being part of one the best up-and-coming wine regions. The area is also known as the ‘Coast of Poets,’ as four world-renowned Chilean poets resided here for its both its beauty and inspirational connection to the sea.

Stroll the beautiful Paseo Bellamar path lining the bustling harbor—keep a keen eye for sea lions and pelicans being fed near the fish market. Here you can buy seafood fresh off the boat, savor a seafood empanada at one of the many local restaurants, or embark on an excursion around the port and harbor.

For some of the most spectacular views of San Antonio’s harbor—and incredible dining and entertainment—visit the Casino del Pacifico, part of the Parque Arauco Complex, a major shopping area. Find one of finest vistas of the central coast at the Christ statue on Cerro Cristo Rey, overlooking the Rio Maipo estuary.

Inland toward the San Antonio Valley, you’ll discover several wineries to tour. Or travel north up the coast to beautiful Isla Negra, where you’ll find the Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda’s ship-shaped house—now a museum and an incredible attraction for fans of his poetry eager to see where and how he lived. Here he wrote many of his best works surrounded by his favorite things, including a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean. You’ll also find a wonderful restaurant and terrace attached to the museum overlooking the beach, as well as the writer’s tomb.
