Fjords, rivers & national parks

Situated along the banks of the St. Lawrence River, the port city of Saguenay is “where ocean and inland water meet”—which is an apt description, since it’s surrounded by Saguenay Fjord, one of the longest fjords in the world, as well as three national parks, including the Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park. No wonder watersports are popular here, especially fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and of course cruises up the fjord.

Visit Rivière-du-Moulin Park for hiking, mountain biking, and guided nature tours. Travel back in time to Val-Jalbert, an authentic company town of the 1920s. Or head to the city center for its many shops, boutiques, and art galleries, then taste your way through the variety of chocolatiers, boulangeries, and patisseries, which serve up local products like handmade chocolates, cheeses, jams, and pastries.

SAGUENAY-ST. LAWRENCE MARINE PARK

Protecting a purely marine environment, this park is one of other three national marine parks in Canada. Whales, in particular, are drawn to the area due to a plentiful food supply caused by the mixing waters of the Saguenay and St. Lawrence Rivers.
