Port Blair, Andaman Islands, India

Find a Voyage:

A tropical paradise & a little slice of heaven

It doesn’t get much more remote and exotic than the Andaman Islands. This tiny archipelago in the middle of the Indian Ocean is comprised of 572 islands (with only less than 40 inhabited) including South Andaman Island, with the charming capital Port Blair.

Originally a penal colony built by the British, exile never looked so good as on the pristine shores of these tropical hideaways. But that’s not to make light of the island’s past—in fact, no visit would be complete without a trip to the Cellular Jail (don’t worry, you don’t have to surrender your phone!) to learn more about the difficult story of the Andaman Islands’ early inhabitants. The history of the Andaman Islands even inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to send the one and only Sherlock Holmes here in his novel The Sign of the Four.

Do a little sleuthing of your own and investigate Ross Island where crumbling ruins of a former British administrative center are now home to dozens of deer and peacocks. Or if untouched nature is what you’re searching for, a two-hour ferry ride will take you to Neil Island where lush landscapes and pristine, deserted beaches await.
