A world of adventures awaits

The busy, modern city of Kota Kinabalu is the capital of the state of Sabah, located on the northwest coast of Borneo. Established in the late 1800s by the British North Borneo Company, the city suffered heavy damage during World War II, but is now known as a fun, laid-back place, with a number of adventures within arm’s reach.

Go for a climb up Mt. Kinabalu or immerse yourself in indigenous life at the Mari Mari Cultural Village, a captivating, lost world of tribal dwellings. The preserved islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park are a haven for swimming, diving, and snorkeling. Trek through the tropical rain forest or discover the city itself: the City Mosque, the glittering dome of the Sabah State Mosque, or the lively street markets, with vendors selling everything from Malaysian clothing to laksa (a famous, spicy Malaysian noodle soup). Unwind with a culinary adventure, as you sip cocktails seaside.
