Norwegian Intensive: Norway and the Midnight Sun
Did you know Norway was named the happiest place on earth by the United Nations in 2017? Find out why on this incredible journey that's all about Destination Immersion® experiences.
Visit Oslo’s fascinating open-air museum to see more than 150 examples of traditional Norwegian houses and buildings.
Climb up through the mountainous countryside on one of the world’s steepest railways in Flam, or go deep beneath these lands in the underground caves of Gundvangen.
Take a cable car ride to view the dramatic snow-capped peaks surrounding Tromso, and meet the indigenous people who live there.
Discover the rugged North Cape and Honnigsvag, where a cliff rising 1,000 feet above the water looks out over an endless sea to the North Pole.
Watch as the Seven Sisters Waterfall plunges nearly a mile into the majestic Geiranger Fjord before you come to tiny Trollfjorden, an Arctic fjord only 100 meters wide.
Stroll the colorful wharf in Bergen, an ancient Hanseatic trading city, then take a funicular ride to the top of Mt. Floyen for spectacular views.
So there you have it, a brief description of our voyage to Norway, the happiest place on earth. For even more happiness, add a back-to-back voyage to the British Open.
Discover the beautiful Tiger City when you arrive in Oslo, Norway’s gorgeous capital. Take in a performance by the National Ballet Company at the new Oslo Opera House, or stroll the Damstredet, a perfectly-preserved slice of Norwegian history where you’ll find wooden houses dating back to the 1700s. Historians will also want to visit Oslo’s many historic vessels, including the Fram and Kon Tiki.
Spend the day sailing in style aboard your boutique hotel at sea. Indulge in a treatment at Sanctum Spa, stay ship shape with a class at our fitness center, or lounge the day away on our sunny pool deck.
In the evening, savor inspired Italian cuisine at Aqualina, or relish in a classic steakhouse experience at Prime C. Plus, you’ll find plenty of exciting evening entertainment, from thrilling shows at Cabaret Lounge to intimate performances in the Living Room.
You’ll find the beautiful, small town of Flam nestled deep in a tributary of the longest and deepest fjord on Earth. Surrounded by steep mountainsides, roaring waterfalls and deep valleys, Flam is a one-of-a-kind experience with nature. It’s also renowned for Aegir, one of Norway’s best craft breweries, and the Flam Railway, considered one of the most fantastic stretches of railroad in the world.
The tiny hamlet of Gudvangen (population 100 people, 1,400 goats, and an undetermined number of trolls) lies at the head of the Nærøyfjord, which has carved its way deep into the mountainous terrain. Here waterfalls line steep mountainsides and farms lie scattered about green valleys. Mining has left a subterranean labyrinth of magical caves—imaginatively recycled for the benefit of visitors.
Sail up the fjord all the way to its head and the tiny village of Geiranger, dwarfed by the towering snow-capped peaks that surround it. There will be many magical moments along the way, perhaps the most spectacular being views of the Seven Sisters Waterfall, spilling hundreds of thousands of gallons of water into the fjord from an incredible height of 5,000 feet.
Just a stone’s throw away from the spectacle of Geirangerfjord, Alesund is renowned for its architecture, where turrets, spires and other whimsical Art Nouveau touches give the town its distinctive character. Tackle the 418 steps to the look out point on Mount Aksla and be rewarded with sweeping views of the charming town, majestic fjords, and rugged Sunmore mountains.

Experience everything nature has to offer when you travel to Svolvaer in the Lofoten Islands of Norway. Marvel at the glacial rock formations of the Lofoten archipelago set against beautiful beaches and sprawling green fields. Visit picturesque fishing hamlets, partake in incredible bird watching opportunities, and catch a glimpse of enormous whales feeding in nearby waters.
They say there’s no view like the one you get from the top of the world, and you can experience it for yourself in Tromso. Take a cable car up Storsteinen Mountain to take in snow-capped peaks and fjords. Afterward, venture into town and visit the Arctic Cathedral, an architectural marvel that resembles an iceberg rising high above the surrounding buildings.
Honningsvag, population 4,000, is the last village before the North Cape. No one lives permanently at the North Cape itself, but many come to visit this majestic cliff, rising over 1,000 feet above the sea, providing a lookout over a limitless panorama stretching silently to the North Pole. Ingeniously concealed inside the cliff is North Cape Hall, where you can ponder the vastness in comfort.

Live it up in the land of the midnight sun. Bodø offers a breathtaking escape to a world of natural wonder just north of the Arctic Circle. Rich in natural beauty but with a fun mix of urban activity, there's plenty of adventure to be had, no matter your travel style. Head out of the city to Kerringjoy and experience life at the edge of the Earth.
Over 1,000 years of history awaits you in Trondheim. Lining the vibrant streets of this city are 17th-century working-class homes transformed into charming bistros, cafes, and local shops. Walk or bike to Nidaros Cathedral and climb the tower for a stunning view of the city and the Nidelva river. After, tour the beautiful Ringve Botanical Gardens that overlook the Trondheim fjord.
Molde, known as the Town of Roses, is a fantastic spot for history buffs and those looking for stunning scenery. When you arrive, take a drive up Trollstigen, a legendary mountain pass that twists through 11 hairpin turns and crosses a towering waterfall. After your unforgettable drive, visit the Romsdal Museum—one of Norway’s largest folk museums—for a look at life in Norway in the early 1900s.
Travel to a world of towering glaciers, cascading waterfalls, and deep mountain valleys when you arrive in Olden. The most adventurous will want to tackle the Briksdal, a million-year-old glacier that takes you across a wooden bridge for a breathtaking view. Not feeling up to the hiking challenge? Relax in a boat upon an enchanting lake with ancient mountains providing an unforgettable backdrop.
Head to the old town neighborhood of Bryggen, a UNESCO world heritage site, and wander along quaint street lined with colorful wooden buildings that house unique shops and restaurants. And don't forget about fjords! Take a ride up the funicular to Mt. Floyen, for views of these impressive natural wonders and the city below—or set out on an excursion to see them up-close.

To discover Edinburgh, head to its historic heart with a walk down The Royal Mile. At the top, perched above the city, is Edinburgh Castle, home to the crown jewels and sweeping views. At the far end is the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official residence when in Scotland. Buildings steeped in history line the route between the two, with most converted into shops, restaurants, and pubs.
