The West Coast’s Best Kept Secret

Whale sharks have heard of it—you can swim with them here, the largest (and most gentle) fish in the sea. And green and loggerhead turtles have definitely heard of it—the Ningaloo Coast is recognized as one of the most important nesting grounds in the world. But not so many people have heard of Exmouth, which makes this port on the remote western coast of Australia the perfect place to explore.

Step off the shore, swim a few feet through the clearest turquoise water, and you’re snorkeling over the world's largest fringing coral reef—the World Heritage listed Ningaloo Reef. Dolphins, manta rays and humpback whales find it paradise. You will too.

For divers, Exmouth Navy Pier is rated one of the top shore dives in the world. Surrounded by big schools of trevally, barracuda and emperor, Queensland gropers, goby fish, and the elusive dugong, it’s like diving in a huge aquarium.

Anglers will find themselves in Australia's premier fishing destination, especially for game and sport fishing. There’s also the dramatic Cape Range National Park for a hike in the Mandu Mandu Gorge should you prefer to stay dry on your outback adventure.

A dull day in Exmouth? Never heard of it.
