An Ancient & Mysterious Town

This part of Wales is ancient indeed.

Inhabited since prehistoric times, and dotted with Britain’s highest concentration of early settlements, it was also one of the last pockets of the old Celtic religion, with its mysterious druid priests. Holyhead lies just beyond the mountains of Snowdonia, likened to the Alps on a smaller scale, a scenically beguiling composition of peaks, lakes, and waterfalls.

No matter that its tallest mountain only rises 3,560 feet; it was tall enough that the whole of Sir Edmund Hillary’s team came here to practice and test equipment before their Everest climb.
