An Underrated Beach-Side Gem

Though not as well known as its two sister cities—Gdansk and Sopot—Gdynia is perhaps one of the most underrated cities in all of Europe. A modern naval port born from the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, this former fishing village has transformed into an ocean playground unlike any other.

Endless white sand beaches with turquoise water may not be what you’d initially assume to find in Poland, but that’s exactly what you’ll get in Gdynia. Stroll along the waterfront—one of the longest in Europe—and take in the scenery like sweeping views of the Baltic Sea, boats of all sizes in the marinas, and of course plenty to fuel your sun, sand, and surf fantasies on beaches like Plaza Mlejska, Plaza w Orlowie, and Osada Rybacka.

But the sights don’t end where the water begins, Gdynia is home to two floating museum ships, the Dar Pomorza and Blyskawica. Climb aboard to learn more about Poland’s rich naval history and then head back into the center of town to feast on some of the region’s acclaimed fresh seafood.

Enjoy a little sun, surf, and sand on the many beaches of Gdynia. Head to Plaza Mlejska in the hear of town, Plaza w Orlowie for hiking seaside cliffs, and Osada Rybacka for a glimpse into the area’s historic fishing industry.
