Northern Crossing: Japan, Russia and Alaska
This crossing will thrill outdoor lovers and everyone who seeks less-traveled roads (or seas). Visit six ports in fifteen days, with seven maiden calls in Japan, Russia and Alaska. From buzzing Tokyo, sail to quieter Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island. Discover a landscape of volcanic caldera lakes at Shikotsu-Tōya National Park and be on the lookout for red-crested white cranes at a protected wetlands park. Next stop: an 1800s-era Russian trading center, with options to tour a museum, walk through the Valley of the Geysers, or view wildlife on the volcano-strewn Kamchatka Peninsula.
Your next three destinations are authentic fishing towns that offer a taste of the wild and spectacular beauty of Alaska. Dutch Harbor is the home port of “The Deadliest Catch” and Kodiak is one of the top three fishing ports in the USA—in fact, you can reel in all five species of salmon here. Non-anglers can tour pristine parks, kayak, take a scenic helicopter tour, and learn about Russia’s place in Alaskan history at Baranov Museum.
Want to see more? Discover Alaska's wild interior by ship, rail and motor coach, or venture through the majestic, untouched Canadian Rockies aboard the Rocky Mountaineer.
The world’s largest metropolitan area, Tokyo is an unforgettable experience for everyone. Tour the best ramen and sushi restaurants, visit Akihabara Electric Town to discover cutting-edge gadgets and games, and scale the Tokyo City View—a breathtaking observation deck on the 52nd floor of Mori Tower. For a change of pace, visit the Meiji Shrine to take a serene stroll along the many walking paths.
Spend the day sailing in style aboard your boutique hotel at sea. Indulge in a treatment at Sanctum Spa, stay ship shape with a class at our fitness center, or lounge the day away on our sunny pool deck.
In the evening, savor inspired Italian cuisine at Aqualina, or relish in a classic steakhouse experience at Prime C. Plus, you’ll find plenty of exciting evening entertainment, from thrilling shows at Cabaret Lounge to intimate performances in the Living Room.
A unique ocean climate and a bustling port await visitors to the town at the “bottom of a little slope.” Muroran is home to impressive architecture, natural beauty, and restaurants every foodie will love. If you’re looking for dishes unique to the region, be sure to try curry ramen—a local favourite! After, head to the Cape Chikyu observatory for breathtaking views of the 8-mile coastline.
Located on eastern Hokkaido, Kushiro is an historic port with a strong fishing industry. “The City of Mist” has a compelling history that reaches back to the legacy of its indigenous people, the Ainu. It’s also widely known for its stunning natural scenery—particularly Akan National Park and Lake Mashu—wildlife, hiking, bird watching, and fresh seafood like Hokkaido crabs, salmon, and octopus.
Relax and reflect on your journey thus far with a few days of fun at sea. Get a behind-the-scenes look at life onboard with an Insider’s View Tour, attend a destination lecture to learn more about your next port-of-call, or try your luck at our onboard casino.
Want to really unwind? Watch the world go by and sip a complimentary drink poolside, or say “ahh” with a visit to Sanctum Spa.
Nestled amongst a string of five volcanoes on the shores of Avacha Bay, Petropavlovsk is the ideal destination to get away from it all while immersing yourself in natural surroundings. The environment lends itself to some breathtaking and unique outdoor activities including climbing volcanoes, relaxing in natural hot springs and fishing in wild rivers.

With its breathtaking winds, stunning Russian architecture, and rugged maritime history, Dutch Harbor is unlike any seaside town you’ve ever encountered. Stop by the Church of the Holy Ascension—a 17th-century Russian Orthodox cathedral—explore the many hiking trails throughout Sitka Spruce Park, or get up-close and personal with the humpback whales when you take a sea-kayak out on the water.

One of the top fishing ports in the U.S. for salmon, halibut, and crab, Kodiak is also a history buff’s dream—from the blue cupolas of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral and Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park to the Alutiiq Museum and Archeological Repository. Outdoor enthusiasts will love watching whales, birds, and bears, or exploring Kodiak by Jeep, ATV, or mountain bike.
With a mild temperature that makes it a favorite tourist destination, Homer has many other charms. Stroll down the peony-lined Pioneer Avenue for upscale restaurants, cafes, art galleries, and even a local brewery and winery. Head to Kachemak Bay for whale watching, Kachemak Bay State Wilderness Park for kayaking and hiking, and Homer Spit for beachcombing, biking, birding, and fishing charters.
Travel to the Kenai Fjords National Park to hike or ski amongst its beautiful mountains. Kayak the tide pools along the fjords, and explore the Exit Glacier while mushing your own dog sledding team. Tour the rich waters of Resurrection Bay, join local anglers to fish for Coho salmon and halibut. Shaped by time, earthquakes, and ocean storms, Seward’s unfolding beauty is yours to explore.
