The Unofficial Capital of North Queensland

With an average of 320 days of sunlight every year, we can think of just as many reasons to visit Townsville. Situated on the shore of Cleveland Bay in Queensland, Townsville borders the central section of the Great Barrier Reef and enjoys warm temperatures year round—reason enough for us to want to visit.

But if you still need some convincing, there’s no shortage of things to see and do. Visit the Reef HQ Great Barrier Reef Aquarium, the world’s largest living coral reef aquarium; the Museum of Tropical Queensland for famous shipwrecks; head to The Strand, a tropical beach with features like gardens and a rock pool, as well as restaurants and cafés; go for a stroll along the Riverway or head to the top of Mount Stuart for spectacular panoramic views of Townsville and the surrounding area.

Another reason to mark Townsville at the top of your must-see list is Maggie—more properly known as Magnetic Island. This national park is filled with rocky landscapes, coral reefs, and an abundance of animal life, including wallabies and koalas.

So what are you waiting for? We’ll see you there!
