Welcome to Little England

Nicknamed “Little England”, the capital of Barbados, Bridgetown, offers visitors a jolly good time. Go right to the heart of Bridgetown’s British invasion, the UNESCO World Heritage designated old town and wander the streets where impeccably preserved British colonial style buildings line the streets. If you close your eyes you could almost think you were on the streets of London, but the warm tropical breezes, emerald green water, and undeniably sunny climate will firmly remind you you’re in the Caribbean.

Make your way to Broad Street or the pedestrian only Swan Street to browse the shops. Bridgetown has excellent duty-free shopping and both streets are the perfect places to soak up the local flavor of the city. And if all that shopping—window or otherwise—has left you feeling thirsty, indulge in a snow cone from one of the many local vendors. Or for something a little stronger, sip on some rum at the Mount Gay Rum Distillery. Sugarcane is on the Barbados’ main crops, and the distillery offers visitors a glimpse of how this sweet plant—aka “rum in the first phase”—is turned into the the island’s tipple of choice.
