One of the most exciting rail journeys in Scandinavia, this amazing feat of engineering spans 12 miles, features 20 tunnels and rises to a height of 2,845 feet. The trip take 40 minutes (slightly longer on the descent) and provides truly breathtaking views.
Located just 39 miles from Flåm, this small town is a hub for extreme sports, hosting an Extreme Sports Week every June. For those seeking milder thrills, the town also contains a church with seven foot thick walls and an octagonal wooden tower that dates back to the 12th century.
This daring hairpin traverse of Mt. Stalheim is one of Europe’s steepest roads. The small village of Gudvangen lies at the base. The route features stunning views of both the valley and the Stalheimfoss waterfall, which cascades 413 feet down the mountainside.
