Dr. Karl Misulis is a physician, scientist, author, and educator. He is currently a professor at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Misulis has authored 17 books and lectured around the world to the public and to fellow scientists. His area of special interest is scientific history – the how and why of the universe. This arena includes astrophysics, earth science, and early human history. Karl earned a B.Sc. (Honors) from Queen’s University, Canada, a Ph.D. from SUNY-Syracuse, and an MD from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Misulis combines science, history, and humor to make informative and entertaining presentations.
Joy Yoshikawa is CEO of The Design Company, a graphic design firm in St. Paul, MN. A trained docent at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, she has been conducting formal tours there since 2005 as well as various “pop-up” tours throughout her travels. She is known for engaging her audiences in lively discussion as they explore the world through the creative expression of what it means to be human – art. Her presentations are aimed at giving context to the art and empowering viewers to “trust their eye”.
Joyce Butler combines her love of the game of bridge with her love of cruising. She is a Bronze Life Master, ACBL-certified director, and accredited bridge teacher. She regularly directs games and teaches novice and intermediate players in her local bridge club. Joyce has developed a series of bridge lectures suitable for all types of players on cruise ships. Lessons focus on how to bid, play, and have fun as partners – from beginners to advanced – as well as strategies for winning. Joyce’s encouraging and enthusiastic manner ensures that all bridge players have an enjoyable and positive experience.
Rabbi Alan Greenbaum was born and raised in Venice Beach, California. After receiving his BA in political science from UCLA, he entered the Rabbinic program at Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion. After his ordination, he began serving congregations in Tennessee, Texas and California. Since retiring, he now works part-time for congregations in Northern California. Rabbi Greenbaum also plays guitar and believes music is the best way to express one’s spirituality. He emphasizes the commonality of world religions by participating in many interfaith projects over the years, including founding the Conejo Valley Winter Shelter Program in Thousand Oaks.
The Rev. Dr. Edward R. Dufresne is a licensed priest of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine and an ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He is a writer, teacher, pastoral consultant and ecumenical leader. Fr. Dufresne serves as Associate Priest at Trinity Episcopal Church, Castine, Maine. He is married to retired Probate and Family Court judge Elizabeth LaStaiti and together they enjoy traveling the world as well as sailing, skiing and hiking at home in Penobscot, Maine, USA.
