Dr. James Howard

Dr. James Howard, Destination Lecturer

Dr. James Howard earned his BS in geology from the University of Dayton, an MS in geology from the University of Houston, and a PhD in geology with minors in paleoecology, marine ecology, oceanography, and environmental studies from Indiana University. He has had the opportunity to teach at several colleges and universities in the US, including Ohio University, Oregon State University, University of Southern California, UC Los Angeles, and UC Irvine. Dr. Howard has spent the past nearly four decades as an environmental consultant involved in projects in 38 states as well as Canada and the Caribbean.

Richard Wainio

Richard Wainio, Special Interest Lecturer – Panama Canal

Richard Wainio served 23 years at the Panama Canal Commission as senior economist and director of planning and marketing. His responsibilities included planning and directing the treaty-mandated transition to Panamanian control of the waterway. He was executive director and president of the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Panama and presently is a global planning consultant. He holds an MA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, a BA from Davidson College, and did post-graduate work in Latin American studies at the University of Florida and in economics at the University of Oklahoma. Richard was born and raised in Panama.

Charles Hodel

Charles Hodel, Bridge Instructor

Chuck Hodel has taught Duplicate Bridge on board cruise ships on more than 35 cruises and has spent approximately 500 days at sea since 1995. He is a Gold Life Master with 2,510 masterpoints and is recognized by the American Bridge Teachers Association (ABTA) as a Master Teacher. Chuck and his wife, Carolyn, are former owners of a bridge club in their community and understand what it takes to create a successful game while providing players and students with the most important aspect of all - having fun.
