Dr. Dennis Reinhartz

Dr. Dennis Reinhartz, Destination Lecturer

Dr. Dennis Reinhartz received his BA and MA degrees in history from Rutgers University and his PhD from New York University.  He is an emeritus professor of history and Russian at The University of Texas at Arlington.  He also has taught at Rutgers, New Jersey Institute of Technology, James Madison University, Bridgewater College, University of London, and Oxford University and holds several teaching awards.  Dr. Reinhartz has offered courses in world history, modern European history, Russian and East European history, modern Chinese history, transatlantic discovery and exploration, history of cartography, and historical methodology and theory.  

Allen Maller

Allen Maller, Rabbi

Rabbi Maller attended UCLA majoring in physics and spent a year at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, deciding then to become a rabbi. He returned to Los Angeles to pursue a Ph.D. in Jewish sociology, and started working at Temple Akiba in June of 1967. Rabbi Maller has published hundreds of articles, authored two books and is the editor of a series of Prayer Books used by congregations all over the Southwest. His children’s story appeared in the L.A. Times in 2005 and on a Muslim website in 2007. He also taught at Loyola Marymount University for three years.

Carroll Travis, Protestant Minister

The Rev. R. Carroll Travis spent 40 years in pastoral ministry in the Episcopal Church, serving parishes all over the U.S. He graduated from Columbia University and The General Theological Seminary. He received a master’s degree in counseling, specializing in couples’ and family therapy from Rhode Island College. Fr. Carroll and Karen Travis have long been involved in the leadership of Worldwide Marriage Encounter and have traveled extensively, leading pilgrimages to Europe and the Holy Land. They have three grown children and five grandchildren. Travis has recently completed “Fully Alive Now,” a comprehensive guide to spiritual development.
