Around Italy–Venice to Rome. This voyage includes less traveled ports like Opatija, a lush seaside resort boasting beautiful gardens, villas, churches, and a 7.5-mile seaside promenade. Another surprise is the small fishing village of Fiskardo, Cephalonia, where construction workers in 2006 discovered a perfectly preserved, 2,000 year-old Roman grave complex filled with treasures. Take a walking tour of the beautiful countryside or beaches, or explore the coastline in a colorful wooden caique. Other must-see destinations include the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Dubrovnik and Kotor, lush Corfu, and the hillside Sicilian town of Taormina. Two full days in Sorrento offer time to shop, feast on fresh local produce and cheeses, and take a walk in the clouds between the cliffside towns of the Amalfi --Coast. The wonders of ancient Pompeii and the beauty of Capri are also within reach.
Sunset Party and Dubrovnik Traditions—September 23, 2013. Step onto the terrace of this elevated church square and admire the gorgeous views of Dubrovnik’s Old Town walls and red tile roofs. Taste delicious Croatian wines and local specialties including dried fruits, smoked ham, fish, mussels, and sausages. Then settle in for a performance by the local Lindjo dance troupe, an internationally recognized folklore ensemble.
