Play today at the K Club – Palmer Course. Located to the west of Dublin City. This beautiful parkland course was designed by Arnold Palmer and hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup. The course covers an area of mature woodland to which fourteen lakes have been added.
It charms, it entices and invariably, brings out the very best in your game. Ranked regularly in the top 3 parkland golf courses in Ireland, this Palmer designed golf haven is a must play 'badge of honor' that has hosted the top players in the world. The Ryder Cup in 2006 and 11 European Opens testify the importance of The Palmer Ryder Cup Course to European Golf.
Today play at Royal County Down. Located in the town of Newcastle to the south of Belfast. Consistently ranked in the top 10 courses in the world, this is a true test of links golf set against the magnificent backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne.
The links stretches along the shores of Dundrum Bay, zigzagging back and forth to provide a different vista from virtually every hole. The narrowest ribbons of fairways thread their way through as impressive a set of sand dunes as could be imagined. The fairways are surrounded by purple heather and golden gorse, so beautiful to look at but so punishing for any who may stray from the prescribed path. The 'bearded' bunkers are world famous and feature overhanging lips of marram, red fescue and heather. The greens are fast and many are domed, rejecting any shot lacking conviction. This is a true test for any players on what is one of the toughest courses in the British Isles.
Play today at The Carrick on Loch Lomond. Named after the Canadian Course Architect, Doug Carrick and opened for play in June 2007. The course follows traditional Scottish heathland style and uses every inch of the dramatic landscape straddling the fault lines between the Scottish lowlands and highlands with nine holes set in each. Some of the elevated holes offer spectacular views of Loch Lomond to the west and Ben Lomond to the north, providing not only stimulating and challenging golf, but some breathtaking photo opportunities, none more so than the elevated tee 80ft above the green at the signature hole, the 199-yard, par 3, 14th called 'Tappet Doon'.
Golfers today will play Castle Stuart Golf Links. The newest addition to the Links Courses of Scotland. Castle Stuart runs along the shores of the Moray Firth to the east of Inverness with wonderful views over to the Black Isle. Six holes hug the shoreline while the remaining holes are played over a terraced slope so views out to sea are ever present.
Designed by Mark Parsinen (also of Kingsbarns fame) and Gil Hanes, this is a true links course in every sense, with the Moray Firth brought into perspective as much as possible. Clever mounding ensures most holes are played in isolation from the rest. A specific feature prominent over the entire layout, is the use of expansive wild looking waste bunkering, which is also combined with strategic riveted face bunkers give the course a wonderfully natural look. Only opened for play in July 2009 but already ranked in the top 100 in the world.
Play today at Kingsbarns Golf Links, a World Top 100 venue. Kingsbarns Golf Links only opened for play in the year 2000, and has joined the great courses of nearby St Andrews and Carnoustie, bringing with it a new dimension to the traditional Scottish game. Designed by Mark Parsinen & Kyle Philips, the course makes excellent use of the natural surroundings which will continually have you thinking its been around for a hundred years or more.
The layout is expansive and undulating and provides ever present views onto the shoreline and out across the North Sea. Everything you would expect of a top quality links course is here in abundance, classic links holes arranged in two out and back loops, wide sweeping fairways and large undulating greens. From the tee the course is forgiving, but stray from the desired line and you face the tougher approach to the green. The greens are testing and will require an excellent judgement of pace and line.
Today, attend the final round of the 142nd Open Golf Championship at Muirfield.
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, as the golf club at Muirfield is properly known, is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world, and the source of the earliest written rules of golf, which date back to 1744. The club has been based at Muirfield since 1891 after moving from their previous home at the links in nearby Musselburgh. The course is renowned amongst golfers as being perhaps the fairest test of all the Open venues, with few of the quirky bounces and hidden danger that links courses often contain. Two circuits of nine rotate in opposite directions, the back nine looping inside the front nine, ensuring that the golfer is never faced with the same wind direction on two consecutive holes. Muirfield will host the Open for a 16th time with previous winners including Els, Faldo, Watson, Nicklaus, Player, Hagen and Vardon.
