Mixing Cocktails the Azamara Way

What could be better than enjoying a drink on the deck of a ship, watching the shoreline slowly disappear into the distance? Knowing that your drink was made by one of the best cruise industry mixologists! Bacardi recently held their sixth annual Bacardi Cruise Competition, pitting the top bartenders and chefs of the cruise industry against one another to discover the most innovative and delicious cuisine.

This year, Azamara bartender Muhamad Muttaqien was one of the Top 5 finalists with his cocktail “All Night Long.” Entered under the Dewar’s Blended Scotch Whiskies category, “All Night Long” proved to set a new standard in the way of blended scotch whisky drinks!

Delectable, Detestable Durian Fruit

As you browse the stalls of Ho Chi Minh City’s markets, you’ll find the sort of wares once whispered about by the merchant ship captains who plied the waters of the Far East. There are delicate balls of dried tea that, once dropped in hot water, unfold to reveal brilliant flowers. There are lacquered serving trays covered with gold leaf and wooden chopsticks inlaid with jade. There are, too, rows of fruit grown in the hot climates of Southeast Asia, spiked and oddly shaped, wild specimens of an exotic world.

Donghuamen Night Market Sizzles

The Dongcheng District of Beijing is well known for its historical sites such as Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City. By day, these sites, seemingly frozen in time, attract tourists and sightseers from across the world. But as night falls, the streets around Dongcheng spring to life as vibrant street markets set up shop. The largest of these markets is the Donghuamen Night Market, where red and white stalls stretch down the darkened streets, illuminating the night with an inviting warm glow. As you approach the market you are greeted by the cacophony of droves of competing merchants, each loudly promoting the delicacies on sale at their individual booths.

Rip Van Winkle – It’s Your Wake-Up Call!

In the short story “Rip Van Winkle” by John Irving, the character wakes up to a greatly changed world after sleeping for twenty years. This story serves as a great metaphor to remind our past-past guests who sailed on Azamara Cruises in 2007, 2008 and most of 2009 to “wake-up” and return to the NEW “Azamara Club Cruises.”

I’ve been discovering comments from those past guests on some cruise message boards stating their intention to vacation with us again due to the favorable comments and feedback they’ve noticed on the internet and from their friends and family. So many good things have happened since our initial launch in 2007 and I want to bring all of Azamara’s first-generation of past guests up to date.

Azamara Cruises was re-branded in December 2009 with a revised name – “Azamara Club Cruises” – as a “boutique cruise line of distinction” with a newly refined focus, and a series of new attributes designed for “upmarket,” experienced and affluent travelers.  Both ships have undergone a $17.5 million revitalization with new European bedding and soft goods, flat screen televisions, new veranda decking and furniture, and wireless internet service in all staterooms and public areas.
