San Andres Island, Colombia

San Andres Island, Colombia

With its mix of Dutch, English, Spanish, and African influences, San Andres Island is a multi-cultural tropical paradise surrounded by “a sea of seven colors”. Naturally, the scuba diving and snorkeling are great here, particularly at La Piscinita, West View, and El Cove, while other water-based adventures include windsurfing, jet skiing, day trips to Johnny Cay and Haynes Cay Aquarium, or just relaxing on one of the Island’s sun-drenched beaches. Visit ecotourism parks like Granja de Job Saas and West View (where you can also learn about San Andres’ culture and purchase local products), and Spratt Bay Parade for duty-free shops and restaurants. Be sure to sample some of the local seafood, with specialties including lobster, shrimp, red snapper, trout, and rondon—a fish fillet with yams and dumplings and cooked in coconut milk.
