Porto Belo itself is a quaint fishing village, but the word is out about its fabulous beaches, with all sorts of water sports available, and underwater trails to follow. For those not inclined to get wet, there are ecological paths to hike, with prehistoric rock carvings along the way. There is also Florianopolis, its old town full of lovely colonial buildings. Further afield in distance and style is Blumenau, a short side trip to Germany, where half-timbered houses recall the heritage of the wave of Germans who settled in this part of Brazil in the mid 19th century.
