This rocky, palm covered island is actually one of three that became known collectively as Devil’s Island, one of the most infamous prisons in history. From 1852-1946 thousands of convicts, from political prisoners to hardened thieves and murderers, were transported to this disease-infested territory. A great many of them were never seen again. Explore the grounds of this undoubtedly haunted place, and listen for whispers on the frangipani-scented air. Tropical foliage has overgrown many of the buildings and softened their harsh aspect.
