Located in Baja California, just 78 miles south of San Diego, is the Mexican coastal city of Ensenada, often referred to as La Cenicienta del Pacifico or “The Cinderella of the Pacific”. It’s one of the first settlements of the Californias, as well as home to the region’s first vineyards, dating back to the early 1700’s. Today, Ensenada has over 40 wineries, producing 90% of Mexico’s wines—including the best wines in the country—so be sure to do a wine tasting, or sample a glass with some of Ensenada’s famous fish tacos, lobsters and steaks. For more adventurous outdoor pursuits, there’s always great sport fishing, surfing, and whale watching tours, especially during the months of December through March, when gray whales migrate to Baja’s lagoons.
