This tiny town on the shores of Romsdalsfjord sits quietly amidst scenes of majestic natural beauty. The long, narrow Romsdalen Valley is surrounded by a towering royal trio of mountains known as The King, Queen, and Bishop, evidently part of a perpetual chess match of mythic proportions. Along the valley floor races a wild and foaming river that morphs into a waterfall plummeting down the rock face. A road called Trollstigen (literally troll ladder, so beware), twists through 11 hairpin turns as it climbs, in some places cutting into the mountain, at others set atop stone walls.
