Roses is an important seaport with the largest fishing fleet on the Costa Brava, although the majority of the city’s fortunes now come from its increasing popularity as a tourism destination. In particular, Roses is famed for its spectacular beaches, all of which have a Blue Flag designation (the European symbol for good water quality and a range of facilities). And although the legendary restaurant El Bulli is no longer open, there are still plenty of fabulous places serving up Catalonian specialties and wines in Roses, as well as at the nearby culinary mecca of Girona and at the city of Figueres, renowned for its Salvador Dali Theatre-Museum.
