The quaint fishing village of Molyvos is situated in a serene landscape of olive groves, watched over by a medieval Venetian fortress, and fronted by one of the loveliest harbors in Greece. Grab a seat in a local cafe for an excellent view as the catch of the day is unloaded from the boats and rushed to markets around the island. Traditional houses and shops of stone line the labyrinth of narrow streets that surround the castle. Lesvos is mountainous and heavily forested, topped by two great peaks, and covered over 40% of its area by orchards and 11 million olive trees. So in addition to the requisite ouzo, an olive oil tasting is certainly in order.
