Hydra is an island both idyllic and lost in a time warp. One town, no real roads, and no cars – only donkeys on the pathways, and taxi boats to isolated beaches and tavernas. The tiny harbor is ringed with cafés and restaurants, and backed by a village of stone houses and villas that step their way up the hillside. The main hobby here is people watching. You can sit in a café for hours sipping an espresso, and no one will ask you to move. But it would be a shame not to engage in a bit of exploration, and there are many paths through the hills leading to outlying hamlets, monasteries, and churches.
