The historic center of Antalya surrounds the Roman harbor with buildings from numerous eras, including many wooden houses from the days of the Ottoman Empire now restored as private homes, boutique hotels, and restaurants, bringing new life to the maze of narrow lanes in this quaint old quarter. If you do not enter the old city through Hadrian’s Gate, make certain to find it. It is triumphal triple-arched portal built in 130 AD to commemorate a visit of Emperor Hadrian. Deep grooves in the stone pavement beneath are evidence of the thousands of carts passing in and out of the city over the centuries.
