Located 300 miles southwest of Manila, the lovely coastal city of Puerto Princesa is a colorful world of white sand beaches, lush green canopies and emerald and blue waters. A must-see is the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, home to “the longest navigable river and reputedly the most beautiful subterranean river in the world.” Take a boat tour down the 8.2-kilometer underground river that winds its way through spectacular caves before reaching its end in the South China Sea. There’s also Honda Bay where you can go island hopping or lie back and relax at one of the dozens of secluded beaches. Other water adventures include scuba diving, with dive sites located at White Beach and Red Cliff, and dolphin watching at Puerto Princesa Bay. For trekkers, there’s Cleopatra’s Needle: At 1,600 meters, it provides a challenging hike as well as a panoramic view of Puerto Princesa.
