Khasab, Oman

Khasab, Oman

Capital city of the Musandam peninsula—and located on the coast of the Straight of Hormuz between Oman, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates—Khasab was built by the Portuguese as a strategic trading port in the early 1600’s. It was virtually unreachable by land for centuries until a modern coastal road was constructed. Now a popular vacation destination, especially amongst Emiratis, Khasab is renowned as “the Norway of Arabia” for its beautiful fjords and massive cliffs, which you can see up close and personal in a dhow cruise or kayak (keep an eye out for dolphins!). Other scenic outdoor activities include city tours, jeep safari rides to Jebel Harim, scuba diving amongst rich marine life, and mountain treks for wonderful views over the Gulf of Arabia and the Gulf of Oman.
